I survived the Commercial Fishing Safety & Survival course!

Recently I was invited by one of my many wonderful bosses to a two-day safety & survival training course. I assume because I don’t appear to be someone that’s effective in an emergency (untrue) but most likely because there’s a deckhand that wants me dead. We practiced signal flares (scary and hot), firefighting (I was too slow), Narcone training (snuck a few extra kits in my bag), damage control, arguing with the coastguard; and finally, putting on survival suits and jumping into the water, making what looked like a human centipede, and getting in a Life Raft. It was pretty intense but incredible to experience. Then we all piled onto Dave’s Boat (I’m leaving it nameless just in case) to do Man Overboard drills and fun things like that. There were donuts for breakfast and I made lots of friends. If anyone needs a commercial fishing vessel safety drill leader — I’m your girl.
