You know these two, Emily Anderson and Yasha Wallin, they are the dynamic duo behind The Usual, that love letter to MTK we all enjoy. Often found on the beaches of Montauk during the long summer days (more than likely at the dent repair, like all of us) or sunning their cheeks about town, these two bring about a style all their own. So we thought it only natural that they be on this list to share what’s what. Be sure to look out for their latest edition of The Usual too, hitting stands later this month.

Where did it all start? Getting fired from our gallery jobs, taking refuge on a beach in Montauk, brainstorming creative world domination without working for anyone else. Still working on the latter, but baby steps.

What is your favorite city and neighborhood? Lower East Side, NYC

What is your favorite hotel? Treebones, Big Sur; EDITION, Miami

Your favorite restaurant and dish? Fat Radish, Duck Fat Fries; Harvest MTK, penne pasta; or anything The Usual staff photog Glenn Glasser makes at home in MTK

Best bar? Paris Bar, Berlin; Glenn’s wine fridge

Favorite vacation location? Big Sur; Maui; anywhere you can surf

Favorite surf spot / board? Montauk because it’s home, anywhere you can wear a bikini

Favorite brand? Patagonia, whatever’s at the Montauk rummage sale, Savoir Joaillerie for jewelry

Essential wardrobe item? Bikinis

Favorite time of year? Summer, duh

Your style Icon/s? Grandma. She believed in “outfits”, red lipstick and high heels.

Your salon? Breeze, NYC

Coffee or tea? COFFEE! Lots of it
